Is the Jolene design safe to cook on?
Yes, the embossed artwork is cast into the iron itself and fully seasoning-safe.
Do I need to season it before first use?
No, it arrives pre-seasoned and ready to cook.
Will all pans look exactly the same?
No, natural seasoning varies. Slight differences in colour or pattern are normal and part of cast iron’s charm.
Can this be a wall display piece?
Absolutely. It’s gorgeous hung up, but tough enough for daily cooking.
- Hand wash and dry immediately, even before first use.
- Rub with a light coat of vegetable oil after every wash.
- How much oil? Enough to restore the sheen, without being 'sticky.' Why? To keep the iron 'seasoned' and protected from moisture.
- It's okay to use a little soap when needed, just make sure you dry thoroughly and apply a little oil afterwards.
A Note on Pre-Seasoning & Natural Variations
Lodge cast iron arrives pre-seasoned with 100% vegetable oil, and because this is a natural, hand-applied seasoning (not a synthetic coating), every piece will look slightly different straight out of the box. You may notice small marks, tonal variations, or areas where the seasoning appears lighter or darker. This is completely normal and simply reflects how the oil has settled and dried on the racks during the seasoning process.
As you cook, your pan will continue to build its own seasoning layer, becoming darker, smoother, and more naturally non-stick over time. These are signs that your cookware is bedding in beautifully and gaining character with every meal. With regular use and a light oiling after cleaning, your pan will only get better, stronger, and more uniquely yours.
