A good loaf starts well before it reaches the oven. The Brød & Taylor Boule Banneton Bakers Set gives your round loaves a supportive place for their final proof, whether you're making sourdough for the week or baking an extra loaf to share.
Made from upcycled sugarcane pulp and renewable bamboo, these lightweight baskets have ridged sides to help support the dough's shape. Their absorbent texture helps manage surface moisture and encourages the dough to release when it's time to turn it out for baking.
The two baskets nest neatly together between bakes, making them easy to tuck away on a shelf. Pair them with Brød & Taylor linen liners if you prefer, available separately.

Why do I need a banneton?
A banneton supports your dough during its final proof, helping it rise upwards rather than spread outwards. The basket helps maintain the loaf's shape, while its natural materials draw moisture away from the dough's surface to support crust development during baking.
How much dough can each basket hold?
Each boule banneton accommodates approximately 850g-1kg of dough.
Are bannetons only for sourdough baking?
Not at all. Bannetons can be used for other bread doughs that need a free-form final proof, without a bread tin to hold their shape. They provide support during the final rise before the dough is turned out for baking.
What are the bannetons made from?
They are made from upcycled sugarcane pulp and renewable bamboo.
Do I need to flour my banneton?
Yes. Lightly flour the basket before use to help prevent sticking during proofing. Rice flour is the baker's recommendation.
Do I need to use a liner?
A liner is optional. Using the basket without a liner gives your loaf a rustic spiral pattern, while a liner creates a smoother surface for scoring. Compatible Brød & Taylor linen liners are sold separately.
How do I clean my banneton?
Let the basket dry completely after use, then brush out excess flour with your hand or a dry brush. Do not wash with soap and water or put it in the dishwasher.
How long will my banneton last?
With proper care, your banneton can last for several years.
Can I bake directly in the banneton?
No. Bannetons are for proofing only and must not go in the oven. Turn your dough out onto a suitable baking surface before baking.
